Cyberstat Challenge – Ontario Edition

Cyberstat Challenge – Ontario Edition

Graduate students attending Ontario universities are invited to enter a competition aimed at popularizing cybersecurity and cybercrime statistics through inventive research and informative posters.

Any student in criminology, cybersecurity, marketing, statistics, computer science, management and business, or any field related to cybersecurity, can now apply to the competition, which will use data from Statistics Canada’s 2017 Canadian Survey of Cyber Security and Cybercrime.

Students are expected to thoroughly examine the data and derive useful awareness messages or lessons to better align recent evidence and statistics with best practices for business. Posters will be presented on October 23-24 in Ottawa as part of the 2019 SERENE-RISC Workshop. The competition carries a prize of $1,000 for the winning team.

This will provide a great opportunity to meet and network with experts and cybersecurity practitioners and team up with graduate students from different horizons.

Participants must join a preparatory meeting (in person or through a videoconference) scheduled for September 2019 at a date to be announced later.

Applications (resumé with a short letter of intent) along with additional questions or inquiries must be sent to info@serene-risc.ca before September 15, 2019. SERENE-RISC will cover all accommodation and travel expenditures of successful applicants not living in the Ottawa area.
